The 1st BTCs4ATMP ATMP Workshop brings together researchers, clinicians, biobank professionals, GMP specialists, regulatory experts and industrial stakeholders working across the complete value chain of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs).

The workshop provides a unique forum to discuss scientific advances, manufacturing challenges, quality requirements, regulatory developments and clinical implementation of innovative therapies.

A unique feature of the BTCs4ATMP ATMP Workshop is the opportunity to explore advanced research, biobanking and manufacturing infrastructures at the University of Szeged through guided visits and practical demonstrations.

Participants will gain first-hand insight into the complete pathway from donor-derived biological materials and biobanking to GMP-compliant manufacturing and clinical translation of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs).

SZTE Cell Therapy Laboratory

Discover the principles of GMP-compliant manufacturing of cell-based medicinal products. Participants will learn about cleanroom environments, quality management systems, manufacturing workflows, documentation requirements and regulatory expectations for ATMP production.

SZTE Biobank

Visit one of Hungary’s leading biobanking infrastructures operating according to ISO 20387 standards. The tour will provide an overview of sample collection, processing, storage, traceability, quality management and the role of biobanks in translational research and ATMP development.

SZTE 3D Printing Centre 

Explore state-of-the-art 3D printing technologies and biofabrication approaches used in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Demonstrations will showcase printing technologies and emerging applications in advanced therapies.

BTCs4ATMP

BTCs4ATMP (Blood, Tissue and Cell Establishments for Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products) is a European COST Action dedicated to strengthening collaboration among blood, tissue and cell establishments, biobanks, GMP facilities, research institutions, clinical centers, regulatory authorities and industrial stakeholders involved in the development of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs).

The network provides a multidisciplinary platform for knowledge exchange, harmonization of procedures, training activities and collaborative research initiatives supporting the safe, effective and affordable translation of advanced therapies into clinical practice.

Objectives

  • Promote standardisation and harmonisation of ATMP-related procedures across Europe
  • Support the development and validation of quality control and quality assurance methodologies
  • Strengthen collaboration between biobanks, blood, tissue and cell establishments, GMP facilities and clinical centres
  • Facilitate regulatory compliance and implementation of emerging European frameworks, including the new SoHO Regulation
  • Support training, networking and mobility opportunities for researchers and healthcare professionals
  • Accelerate the translation of innovative therapies from research to patients

From SoHO to ATMP

A central concept of BTCs4ATMP is the integration of the complete value chain from donor-derived biological materials and biobanking through processing, manufacturing and quality control to clinical application.

Szeged is located approximately 170 kilometers southeast of Budapest. The closest airport is Budapest International Airport (BUD). Szeged is accessible by public transportation (train) or with airport shuttles. Please note that the airport stop is under the name of Ferihegy.

Public Transportation

Budapest Airport to Ferihegy train station: Take bus 200E from the airport to Kőbánya-Kispest metro station. This bus departs from Terminal 2 and provides a direct connection to the metro.

Ferihegy to Szeged: Check the schedules of the train going to Szeged. The train travels hourly to Szeged and the journey takes about 2.5 hours.

Notes: Before boarding any means of public transport, purchase your ticket at the airport’s transportation information desk, a ticket vending machine, or a nearby kiosk. You can also buy tickets through mobile apps or online platforms, depending on the available options at the time of your visit. Please note that all tickets need to be validated once you board the vehicle. You can use the ticket machines or QR codes on buses, or ask for the help of the conductor on trains.
